Blocks

Yogis used blocks and bricks to modify their poses in their workouts. Yoga blocks give you the needed support when performing difficult poses. It allows you to develop your flexibility in a safer and more effective way. It lessens the strain on the muscles when you do new poses and gives you a better body alignment. Yoga blocks may also come in different sizes that can be used in doing either simple or advanced poses.

Yoga Straps

A Yoga strap is a form of yoga equipment that can either be a simple nylon strap or a metal buckle. It comes in a wide range of colors and usually light-weight. It lets you grasp your hands, arms, feet and legs that may is beyond your reach when doing certain poses such as Seated Forward Bend or Paschimottanasana. In this pose, you sit with both legs in front while attempting to lay your torso flat over your thighs. If you need to stretch and your hamstrings are very tight, you can loop a yoga strap at the bottom of your feet to gently pull your torso downward. The yoga strap can also help develop flexibility and lets you fasten limps together to hold a pose for a desired amount of time.

Videos

For those who are too busy to attend a regular yoga class or those who do not require the need for a yoga instructor, there are some available yoga workouts and demos on DVDs and videos. It may be a less conventional type of yoga equipment but it can also help in setting up the mood of home-based yogis. It become a popular choice because it allows you to practice doing yoga even if you're at home. A typical DVD may include a video for certain skill levels and goals. It can teach yoga poses to beginners up to advance levels.

Since yoga is fast becoming popular among men and women of different ages, there are lots of yoga equipment shops that offer these equipments. They might even offer a full yoga "kit" that may include a mat, a block, straps and perhaps a video of different poses. This kit is a wonderful package for beginners that are having a hard time in deciding where to start.
