Teaching the sit command is fairly easy, tell your dog to sit, then place your hand over his hind quarters and gently push him down into a sitting position, when he is in the sitting position tell him he's a good boy, then reward him with a treat.
By regularly repeating this exercise, your dog will sit when he is told, because he knows that by obeying you he will get a treat and also because he can tell that you are delighted with his efforts. Ultimately your dog will naturally do what you tell him, and there will be no need to give him a reward.
