A Married Couple Becomes Upset About Their Abusive And Hazardous Drinking And Ponders Whether They Exhibit Any Alcoholism Signs
Angie and Lenny have been married for five years. They wanted to experience some fun and excitement before they made up their minds to have children and so they consciously developed a very exciting social life.
The basic problem, it needs to be emphasized, is that nearly everything they do for excitement is associated with drinking. For instance, all of the sporting events, family get-togethers, parties with friends, dinner engagements, and happy hours they attend somehow include drinking.
If they were casual drinkers this wouldn't be a major problem. Due to the fact they drink in a hazardous manner, nevertheless, they are starting to notice some definite alcohol-related problems in their lives.
As an illustration, just two days ago Lenny received a second DWI and has been shirking responsibilities at work due to alcohol-related health problems. Not only this, but Lenny's last two or three performance appraisals at his place of employment have been less than praiseworthy and he has started to fail to remember what he says or does when he drinks. Lastly, Lenny has been experiencing sleep-related problems and his family is starting to grow concerned about his drinking problems.
In a similar manner, Angie has been feeling depressed about things in her life and to cope with these feelings, she has been drinking more frequently than any time in the past six months. What is more, Angie has been getting a lot of painful headaches and experiencing terrible hangovers from drinking. Lastly, Angie has been feeling notably less energetic in the morning, she has been showing up late for work, and she has been receiving some insensitive criticism from her family members, coworkers, friends, and relatives about her careless drinking.
One Wednesday evening while watching the television, Angie and Lenny happened upon a TV special about alcohol facts and alcoholism facts in general and about the signs of alcoholism in particular. This television documentary was a real source of discovery to Lenny and Angie because several of the alcohol facts that were highlighted looked like they were unquestionably associated with more than a few of the alcohol related drinking problems Angie and Lenny had been experiencing.
With thoughts of the TV special still etched in her mind, Angie asked Lenny if some of the alcohol addiction signs they have been displaying could mean that they are alcohol dependent or perhaps becoming dependent on alcohol. Lenny didn't know the answer to Angie's question and so he suggested that they make an appointment with one of the doctors at the nearby drug and alcohol treatment center to find out more about the gravity of their drinking circumstances.
Ironically, even though their drinking situation hadn't yet changed, it was clear to see that Lenny and Angie were at least addressing their drinking problems, they were willing to find out more about their drinking circumstances, and they were interested in learning how they could significantly lessen or get rid of the drinking-related issues that had started to escalate.
When Lenny and Angie went to bed that night, they came to a decision that the next afternoon, Lenny would call and make an appointment for both of them at the drug and alcohol abuse rehabilitation facility located in the middle of town. After they promised one another that they would do whatever it takes to deal with the drinking problems that had cropped up in their lives, they in point of fact had the most energizing night's sleep they could recollect in the last three months.
